Mad Cookies Studio created the turn-based roguelite deckbuilder Fogpiercer, which was released by Hooded Horse. You drive a specially designed train to avoid robbers and opposing factions in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a menacing fog. The game has a special mechanic where your train is your deck; the cards you can play in battle are directly determined by each carriage, weapon, and locomotive that are linked.
Your Deck is the train.
In contrast to conventional deckbuilders, you don’t gather action cards as a regular inventory; rather, each carriage you affix to your locomotive adds a distinct set of cards to your active pool. You can stop at depots and chop shops to fix, improve, purchase, or sell carriages as you travel through a branching, Slay the Spire-like environment. Train management and deck optimization are closely related because when you remove a carriage from your train, the cards that go with it are also removed from your deck.
Grid-Based Tactical Combat
Fogpiercer’s battles are fought on a tiny square grid. Combat is more like a puzzle than a standard brawler because adversary actions and intentions are obvious in advance. Your cards give you the ability to physically move adversaries across the battlefield, push them into environmental hazards, knock them onto the tracks so your train can crush them, or make them attack one another in addition to simply trying to deliver the most damage.
Various Motivators and Meta-Advancement
You choose a driver at the beginning of each run, and each one has unique backgrounds, passive skills, and unique bonus cards. Characters like Monica, an ice harvester, for instance, have the ability to freeze and shatter foes, while other drivers have the ability to control time or call out ghosts. The game has a permanent meta-progression system that allows you to earn new locomotives, drivers, and beginning carriages to help you in subsequent runs if your run comes to an end.
