WhyFi is a useful tool that appears as a menu bar icon and immediately explains why your Wi-Fi is unreliable or slow, as well as how to solve it.
How it operates
WhyFi keeps an eye on your connection on multiple levels:
Wi-Fi signal (from Mac to router), router latency, and the Internet DNS. The colors of each indication are highlighted: orange indicates average, red indicates a concern, and green indicates everything is good. The menu bar icon varies depending on the quality of the connection.
Extensive Network Diagnostics
Signal strength, noise floor, transmit rate, and ping times are just a few of the detailed real-time statistics that the app offers. You may quickly determine how well your connection is working without having to access complicated settings thanks to a straightforward color-coded face on your menu bar (green for good, orange for deteriorated, and red for broken).
Features:
- WhyFi Radar: As you travel about your house or café with your laptop, the app refreshes four times a second, indicating the best signal (0–100 points) and telling you to “move on” or “go back.”
- Bufferbloat detection speed test (a delay issue under stress, crucial for calls and video)
- Wi-Fi channel scanner: indicates crowded channels and suggests a different one.
- ChatGPT/Claude report export
- Captive portal detection (hotel/airport Wi-Fi)
